Elf Make Up Brushes Review

So I am a Real Techniques brush kinda gal and hold my
hands up and say that I love them.

But I thought after hearing some great things about the
ELF brushes that I would give them a go.

I ordered these online a few weeks ago and have been using
them ever since to see what I thought.

This is what came in this set (website here)

 Brush Collection

Total Face Brush
Blush Brush
Foundation Brush
Brow & Comb Brush
Eyelash & Brow Wand
Eyeliner Brush
Smudge Eye Sponge
Eyeshadow Brush
Concealer Brush
Lip Defining Brush

To be honest when I first ripped open the box I was not that impressed with these brushes at all, the bigger brushes looked like the bristles were everywhere and they are not as dense as the RT brushes. But I went ahead and used them that day for applying the face!

I also quickly noticed that they are no where near as soft as the RT brushes,
in fact I disliked them so much that I didn't use the face brushes
and went back to the RT ones.

First impressions of the eye brushes are great. The small sponge one is fantastic for smudging out your eyeliner and the eyeshadow ones are also good at their job.

Don't really use a foundation brush for my foundation so I can't really comment on that one.

Then one morning I was trying to apply my blush and I wanted to use my
Hourglass blush and usually I would use the RT contour brush for this.

I had read on a blog (can't remember which one) that this is a great blush but
they were having problems applying it with a soft brush,
so I used the total face brush from the ELF set and I was in love.

Because it is not such a soft brush it goes on so well with my Hourglass blush.

So after that little find I decided to give the other face brushes a go for powder
and the such like and I have come to the conclusion that although they are
not as soft as the RT ones they are still really good brushes and at a fraction of the price.

My final thought on these is, if you are looking for a good affordable brush then go and get these. They are fantastic for the price and a great everyday brush.

What do you guys think? Any brush brands that you recommend?

Let me know in the comments :)

Favourite Thing Thursday - Part 7

So another week and another favourite from me.

This week I have been loving these

I bought these a while ago and have been loving them ever since.
Some  people seem to dislike them but I think that they are lovely.
I find that they go on the lips easily and are very nourishing
and not drying at all in me.

I have the following shades

I am totally in love with the 005 shade and it is perfect for the cold months
that are coming upon us.

I only have to swipe this over my lips once and the colour is really opaque, it then dries a little but is still glossy and not drying at all.

Only thing is that it doesn't last that long on me, I wanted these too as some
people have said that it lasts for ages even after eating but for me not so much,
which is a shame. But then I find that most lip
products disappear on me so I can't dislike it for that reason.

So I have the feeling that I might be getting a few more of these.
I also love the packaging too.

Have you tried these? What did you think?

Pam Does Baking :)

So as you may or may not know I love to bake....a lot but I don't do it that often as I am trying to watch the weight and if I bake, I eat!

So we were off to a friends birthday BBQ and I wanted to make
something as I use that as my excuse

I was reading Cult Beauty Blog and came across this recipe for carrot cake

It is one of my favourite but instead of doing it as a cake
I thought I would do it as cupcakes :)

Bought these cuties at Tesco

Mixed up the ingredients

Popped it into tins

Baked and they smelt lovely :)

Then added the icing which was the best bit and I could have eaten it out of the bowl..and I didn't do that at all...promise!

The list of things that you will need and the recipe is as follows
(taken off Cult Beauty link above)

{Ingredients}
{Cake}175g dark brown soft sugar (sifted)
2 large eggs
120ml sunflower oil200g wholemeal self-raising flour
1 & 1/2 level teaspoons of bicarb
3 rounded teaspoons of mixed spice
zest of 1 orange (grated)
200g carrots peeled then coarsely grated
175g sultanas
{Topping}250g quark (skimmed-milk soft cheese)
20g caster sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 rounded teaspoon ground cinammon
{Glaze}juice of 1/2 small orange
1 dessertspoon lemon juice
40g dark brown soft sugar
{Method}
Pre-heat the oven to 170°C and grease a (20 x 26 x 4cm) cake tin
1. Whisk sugar, eggs and oil together in a mixing bowl for 2-3 minutes.
2. Sift flour, spice and bicarb into the liquid mixture, and stir together ’til combined.
3. Fold in carrots, sultanas and zest – then tip the mix into the tin and bake for 35-40 minutes.
4. Prepare the topping. Mix ingredients ’til fluffy, then cover with clingfilm and place in the fridge.
5. Make the syrup glaze, by whisking the sugar and fruit juices together.
6. Take cake from the oven, and poke with a skewer (saucy), before spooning over the syrup.
7. Leave in the tin to soak up all the goodness, then once cooled, remove it and smother with frosting.
8. Cut into 12 squares, and sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon.

So what is your favourite cake?

Favourite Thing Thursday - Part 6

So here we are again and the winner this week is

hair mask

I did a bit of a blog post on this a while ago, which can be found here

The reason why this has become my favourite this week is because
I went into work the other day after going swimming in the morning and
one of the people that I work with said to me
'oh have you been swimming this morning'

I felt all impressed with myself thinking that she was going to say I had that smug
'I have done my exercise today' look on my face
but no my bubble was burst when she said 'just your hair looks dry'

I had already been using the hair mask on a Sunday night and that is lovely,
makes my hair feel so thick the next day and nourished,
but hadn't really done much with the oil.

So I took it with me the next time I went swimming and used it before
blow drying and it has made so much of a difference to me.

I take just a few drops and work it into my wet hair and then blow dry.
Careful not to use too much as it can make your hair look greasy.

Doesn't make the ends of my hair feel or look so dry and
as I have found makes my hair feel even better the next day.

Since I have started using it a few weeks ago I haven't had
any more comments from colleagues either

Have you tried these yet?
